Survival Skills For Healthy Families
Parenting Young Children
Early and Middle Childhood: 2 - 8 Years

A workshop designed for parents, grandparents and teachers who care for children from two years to eight years of age.
Picture
The early years of a person's life are truly the most formative. Filled with both fun and frustration, parents who know what to expect at various stages in a child's development learn how work with and enjoy the child's growing need for power and freedom as they work to build their autonomy.

Participants in this workshop gain knowledge and confidence by working in small groups, sharing ideas and supporting each other.  They come away from the group sessions more aware of the normal challenges of interacting with children and the skills to overcome them.

The Nurturing Parenting curriculum is an evidence-based course designed to empower parents with new knowledge, beliefs, strategies and skills that can lead to healthier lifestyle choices and foster lifelong relationships.

Topics Discussed
  • The importance of adults taking time to nurture themselves.
  • How various developmental stages directly effect children's behavior.
  • Steps parents can take to help children get their needs met and its positive impact.
  • Ways to avoid exhausting power struggles by learning how to balance power.
  • Helping children deal with difficult feelings.
  • The importance of having age appropriate expectations.
  • How to recognize and leverage teaching opportunities.
  • How to properly and creatively utilize challenging behaviors and mistakes as opportunities to teach children rather than punish them.
  • Simple, small changes to help parents build healthy relationships with their children.
